It is an important occasion when a child first starts school! We try to make the transition as smooth as possible. We encourage whānau to pre enrol their tamariki up to two years prior to their fifth birthday. This helps us with our forward planning.
We encourage whānau families to meet with the Principal and the New Entrant teacher upon enrolment. At approximately six weeks prior to your child’s fifth birthday, please contact the school to arrange pre-visits and complete the formal enrolment paperwork.
In the four weeks prior to starting school the children may attend school for two periods per-week, to be arranged with the classroom teacher and caregivers. The session will usually start at 9:00 am and finish at 11:00 am, immediately after morning tea.
These visits are designed to make the children familiar with their environment so that they transition more easily into school. It is also an opportunity for families to become familiar with the classroom, teacher, and our routines.
Families move and changing schools is a part of growing up. Please feel free to come and visit the school, meet with the Principal and discus what the school offers and any particular needs of your tamariki. You are very welcome here!
Stationery packs can be purchased from the office on enrolment. They are well priced and only include quality products.
Picton School has a uniform shirt, jacket and sunhat.
Children should wear black pants / shorts / skirts / skorts.
Uniforms can be purchased from the office.
