Our Charter

Our Charter includes aims that reflect the unique position of Māori culture in New Zealand society.
These aims promote the value of te reo (Māori language) and te ao Māori (Māori culture).

Picton School helps our Māori students gain the skills, qualifications, and knowledge they need to achieve and enjoy educational success, as Māori and other cultural groups. This is being strengthened with the school’s engagement with the Poutama Pounamu program.

The Board and staff consult with the Māori community when developing plans and targets for improving the progress and achievement of Māori students (NAG 1, National Administration Guidelines 1).

These aims are in accordance with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and are legal requirements in relation to Māori under the Education Act 1989.
All Strategic Documents can be found either on the website or on Schooldocs (which is accessed via the School website).
